V-3

.

steel 1 ine as shown on Drawing 3. The supply I ine and overflovl line

are in good condition according to the best information availal>1e. The

storage capacity is less than one-Fourth the estimated maximum daily de-

mand, and is too small to provide reasonable fire protection or for long

periods of demand exceeding inflow.

CHLORINATION STATION

The chlorinator is presently housed in a concrete block building located on

Drawing 1. The building is 12 feet square and includes a heater and vent.

The roof is leaking and requi res replacerrent. Inside the bui Iding (Figure

V-A). the main transmission 1 ine is exposed and a back pressure control

valve is installed to operate the chlorinator. Piping in the building also

includes a flow meter 3nd a pressure relief valve. The chlorinator appears

to be in good condition and is operating satisfactorily. The back pressure

control valve also appears to be operating satisfactorily. The flow meter

has recently been rebuilt and calibrated and is working satisfactorily.

.

During the past few years, the back pressure control valve has been closed

tight and has not been in use, and the IO-inch gate valve has been throttled

to provide a pressure drop to operate the chlorinator and build a head in the

line above the chlorinator to provide service to high customers. Throttling

this valve has worn away the seat and disc until it cannot make a tight shut-

off.

The chlorinator is operating satisfactorily which is the main function of

the facil ity, but the building is in a generally run down condition and is

in need of repairs.

DISTRIBUTIOl< SYSTEM

The distribution system is shown on Drawing 3. Line sizes and general loca-

tions are shown along with the pipe material. Valves and fi re hydrant loca-

tions are also shown. The information for this Drawing was taken from all

available system drawings and the memories of Mr. Arthur Natal, the present

.
