The Welch Ditch also serves as the supply ditch for the Midway Reservoirs. The Midway

Reservoirs supplement the water supply to users on the lower portions of the Agricultural Ditch, which

allows for greater use of other supplies in the upper reaches of the ditch. The Welch Ditch can provide

irrigation water to a service area of up to 2,300 acreS. The facilities and service area associated with the

Welch are shown on Figure 1.

The water rights associated with the Welch Ditch consist of decreed direct flow rights from Clear Creek.
These rights were adjudicated in ] 884 for a cumulative total of 27.525 cfs. An extension and enlargement
right of the Welch Ditch, known as the Agricultural Reservoir Ditch, was adjudicated in 1936 for 24 cfs;
however, this enlargement is intended for the Agrictlltural Ditch shareholders. A list of the water rights
associated with the Welch ditch is provided below.

Priority Appropriation Date AdilJdication Date Amount ( cfs)
4 5119/1860 10/4/1884 0.225
12(2) 5/131186 I ] 0/411884 1.30
55 2/] ]1187 I 10/411884 26.00
75 6/211900 5/1311936 24.00

The State Engineer's Office Annual Diversion Records for 1994 and ]995 are included in Appendix B.
The acquisition of additional water rights will not be necessary for this project.

Need for the Project

The Ditch Company is undertaking this project to provide for a more efficient, reliable and consistent use

of the Welch Ditch water supply. The proposed project involves the replacement and abandonment of

certain high-maintenance portions of the Welch Ditch. To maintain service to the existing users, Welch

Ditch water will be dropped into and conveyed in the Agricultural Ditch past abandoned sections of thc

- 2 -

~

~

I Bishop-Brogden Associates, !ne.
