I
I
I
I
I
I

Coors, the Welch will be diverted into an existing dropout structure. The dropout will be modified so that

water can either be delivered back to Clear Creek or dropped into the Agricultural Ditch. The section of the

Welch Ditch that runs along South Table Mountain can, therefore, be abandoned up to the Rolling Hills Golf

Course. The Agricultural Ditch will convey the combined flows of both the Agricultural and Welch Ditches

for that stretch. The capacity of the Agricultural Ditch has been reviewed to confirm that it can

accommodate the additional Welch Ditch water.

I

A series of three pump stationshave been proposed to lift Welch Ditch water from the Agricultural Ditch

hack up to the Welch Ditch to serve Welch users and fill the Midway Reservoirs. The first pump station will

lift a portion of the Welch Ditch water back up to the Welch Ditch in the vicinity of Rolling Hills Golf

Course for delivery to the golf course and other users in the vicinity. This will allow the second section of

the ditch between approximately Indiana Street and Lena Gulch in the vicinity of the Denver West area to

be abandoned, thereby eliminating the need for portions of the ditch to be piped through proposed

developments.

I
I

The second pump station will lift Welch water back up to the Welch Ditch near Lena Gulch and the Kellog

Lateral headgate where it will continue to serve Welch users directly downstream to about Sixth Avenue.

The third pump station will be constructed at East Reservoir in the Agricultural Ditch to pump water to Main

and Smith Reservoirs for storage. This will eliminate the need to use the downstream section of the Welch

Ditch for delivery of water to the Midway Reservoirs and allow the section of the Welch Ditch from a spill

structure in the Union Square area south of 6th A venue to Smith Reservoir to be abandoned.

I
I
I
I
I

The proposed project will continue to provide water to all but two existing small users under the Welch Ditch Z

system. These two users will be provided with a pump and augmentation water to allow them to divert

directly out of Lena Gulch; alternatively, their water may simply be purchased by the Ditch Company.

I
I
I
I

Cost Estimate

The selected alternative is estimated to cost a total of $598,000. A more detailed breakdown of the costs is

included in Appendix C. A 10 percent engineering fee and 15 percent contingency has been included in each

component to account for design costs and uncertainty. A summary of the cost estimate is provided below.

" 7 -

31
.A

I Bishop-Brogden Associates, lnc.
