The smallest <br />RCC dam at the lower site is about 1/3 the cost of its earthen <br />counterpart, but at the medium to large size ranges the earthen <br />embankments become more economical on a cost per acre-foot basis. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />1 . Beaver Creek Dams and Reservoirs <br /> <br />Water storage facili ties L~ the Beaver Creek basin were not <br />formally studied as part of the USBR work in 1982. Previous project <br />formulations included canals and conduits which transferred water from <br />the West Divide/Mamm Creek basins westward crossing Beaver Creek and <br />diverting available Beaver Creek water to service areas further west. <br /> <br />As far as we have been able to determine, this is the first <br />study which has formally addressed the possibility of water storage in <br />the Beaver Creek Basin itself. <br /> <br />The Beaver Creek Basin extends from its source at about ele- <br />vation 11,000 ft northward t) its mouth at the Colorado River. <br />Throughout its length the stream channel is steep (10% + ) and does <br />not afford an efficient reservoir location. Because- no clearly <br />attractive sites exist, two sites ,..ere identified as the most pro. <br />mising and used as the basis for cost estimates and further analysis. <br />The relative location of these two sltes is shown on Figure III-2. <br /> <br />IV-25 <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />The lower slte is located offstream, on a tributary which <br />still allows diversion of main stem flows into the reservoir.
