The report is presented as a status report
in order that results of studies made to date may be preserved and made
ave.ilable to interested agencies and individuals to determine if one or
more of the plans presented meet the present needs and priorities of the
area.

Investigations

Investigation of the Basalt Project was authorized by the Fryingpan-
Arkansas Project Act of August 16, 1962 (Public Le.w 87-590). That act
stated the.t the Secretary shall expedite completion of his planning re-
port on the Basalt Project, Colo., as a participating project of the Colo-
rado River Storage Project under the Colorado River Storage Project Act
of April 11, 1956 (P.L. 84-485) and said report shall have the priority
status of the reports to which reference is made in Section 2 of said act.

Feasibility investigations of a Basalt Project plan were well along
on the basis of traditione.l methods of ple.n formulation and evaluation
prior to October 1973 when new ple.nning procedures, "Principles e.nd Ste.nd-
ards for Ple.nning Water and Related Land Resources," became effective.
Since funds were not available for a re-evaluation of the data compiled,
the feasibility studies were completed on the basis of the traditional
planning methods. Some additional reconnaissance studies were made to

Save Energy and You Serve America!
