.

.

.

CRAPrER III

BASES FOR ANALYSES

--~.;-

,
..i.
I

t;^'<

Farm herd U~ u~~f on irrigated pasture congregates
around watering pond.

Farm size and excess lands

The irrigated acreages required for efficient farm operation would
be in excess of the 160 acres for which water could be provided for a
Federal reclamation project under existing law but would be equivalent
to 160 acres of class 1 land. The equivalent of 160 acres of class 1
land is considered to be 210 acres of class 2 land and 240 acres of class
3 and 3M land. Thus each acre of class 2 land is considered equivalent
to 0.76 acre of class 1 land and each acre of class 3 and 3M land is con-
sidered equivalent to 0.67 acre of class 1 land. If irrigation develop-
ments' were undertaken, special legislation would be necessary to permit
delivery of project water to the acreage equivalents of 160 acres of class
. 1 land. ~\

Excess land does not pose a problem on the Basalt Project. Only one
ownership, containing approximately 600 acres of nonirrigated land, would
have to be divided in order for all of the acreage to receive water from
the project.

Irrigators' payments

The estimated amounts that would
irrigators represent the irrigators'

be recommended for payment by the
estimated gross farm income less

24
