.

.

.

SUMMARY SHEE'IS

Basalt Project, Colorado

LOCATION

Roaring Fork Valley in the vicinity of Basalt and Carbondale in Garfield,
Eagle, and Pitkin Counties of west-central Colorado.

PLA1'lS INVESTIGATED

Consideration was given to four potentialities for water resources devel-
opment. Three of these would obtain all or a major portion of their
water supply from the existing Ruedi Reservoir on the Fryingpan River.
They also would make some use of surplus direct flows of Fryingpan
River and small local streams. The fourth potentiality involves only de-
velopment of local streamflows by enlargement of the existing Missouri
Heights Reservoir.

One plan for use of Ruedi Reservoir consists simply of the purchase of
storage water by a non-Federal entity, with that entity providing the
necessary collection and distribution facilities. All of the other devel-
opments were considered as potential participating projects of the Colo-
rado River Storage Project. Data on these are tabulated below.

Use of Ruedi Reservoir
storage water
Gravity Pumping
pipeline from
from Fryingpan
reservoir River

ment of
Missouri
Heights
Reservoir

WATER SUPPLY

Increase in supplies (avg. ann. ac.-ft.)
Municipal and domestic use
Irrigation
Outdoor residential use
Total
Effects on Colorado River at Hoover Dam
Stream depletion (avg. ann. ac.-ft.)
Increase in salinity (mg/l)
Salt loading 0.1 0.1
Depletion effect -.&.....!.2.. 0.2
Total .9.b.2
11 Figures shown are average annual supplies for a 50-year period
and reflect anticipated gradual conversions of some irrigation vater to
outdoor residential use or use on tracts of 5 acres or less.

.],0,800
1/6 440
ij~:060
2 ,300

10,800

Y920
Y2,5Bo
3,500

~
1~800

9,100

6,100

1,800
