<br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CHAPI'ER I <br /> <br />GENERAL DISCUSSIONS <br /> <br />indications point to increased pressure for home and building sites in <br />the 'Project area. <br /> <br />Colorado Mountain College, a small coeducational junior college, <br />'Wae, established in the project area in 1967 as part of' the community <br />'junior college system. It is located on a high bench between Glenwood <br />Springs and Carbondale. <br /> <br />Transportation Facilities and Services <br /> <br />state Highway 82 branches f'rom Interstate 70 at Glenwood Springs <br />and runs in a southeasterly direction through the Roaring Fork Valley <br />and over the Continental Divide, joining U.S. Highway 24 south of' Lead- <br />ville. State, county, and Forest Service roads provide access to all <br />parts of the project area. A branch line of' the Denver and Rio Grande <br />Western Railroad traverses the Roaring Fork Valley to Aspen from the <br />railroad's main line at Glenwood Springe,. Limited commercial air serv- <br />ice is provided at Sardi Field near Aspen. The nearest major air serv- <br />ice is available at Grand Junction, approximately 90 miles southwest of' <br />Glenwood Springs. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Climate <br /> <br /> <br />The climate of' the project area is semiarid with cool pleasant sum- <br />mers and cold winters. Temperatures vary some..mat among areas.
