I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Geotechnical Engineering Investigation

The outlet works consist of a reinforced concrete intake with 3/4 inch steel pipe grating
trash racks, a reinforced concrete pressure conduit, a central reinforced concrete valve tower, and
a downstream gravity flow conduit.

The project is currently operated under a reservoir gage height restriction of 64.5 feet,
imposed by the Colorado State Dam Safety Division. This restriction was imposed as a result of
seepage daylighting along the downstream face,

C. Scope of Services

The scope of work for this geotechnical investigation included a site reconnaissance,
subsurface exploration, laboratory testing, engineering analysis of the field and laboratory data
and preparation of this report. The data obtained and the analyses perfonned were for the
purpose of providing a stability and seepage evaluation of the embankment under different
reservoir levels and different phreatic surface elevations.

This report has been prepared for Santa Maria Reservoir Company in accordance with
generally accepted geological and geotechnical engineering practices for the specific use in the
stability and seepage analyses and control of seepage at Continental Dam in Hinsdale County,
Colorado. No other warranty, either expressed or implied as to the professional advice provided,
is made. The analysis and conclusions contained in this report are based on the site conditions as
they were understood at the time of our reconnaissance and field work; and on review of available
reports and available geologic maps. It should be recognized that some limitations are inherent in
the evaluation of subsurface conditions and that certain conditions may not be detected. Changes
in the infonnation or the data gained from these sources or in the proposed land use could result
in changes in our conclusions. In the event that there are any changes in the site conditions, the
conclusions and recommendations contained in this report shall not be considered valid unless 1)
the changes are reviewed by Harza Northwest, Inc. and 2) conclusions and recommendations
presented in this report are modified or verified in writing. Reliance on this report by another
must be at their own risk. We do not accept consequences for unconsulted use of segregated
portions of this report.

Continental Dam

Page 2
