The total amount of water diverted by OMID in the preceding 3 years is as
follows:

Year

Amount Diverted

1993
1994
1995

61,270 A-F
59,370 A-F
63,600 A-F

B.

WATER RIGHTS

1. Primary Water Rights Owned by Entity.

OMID has two primary irrigation water rights which are diverted from the
Colorado River at the roller dam of the Grand Valley Project located near
Cameo. The water rights are described as follows:

1) An irrigation water right in the amount of 10.2 cfs, with a priority date
of 1898.

2) An irrigation water right in the amount of 450 cfs, with a priority date of
1907.

Copies of the original decrees are shown in Appendix E.

Water from the two water rights identified above is used as follows: 17.2 cfs
(peak demand) are delivered out of the Orchard Mesa Power Canal to the
Vine1ands area for irrigation. (Some of this water is delivered by gravity
flow, and some by pumping.) The remaining water travels to the Orchard
Mesa Pumping Plant, where 272 cfs are used to operate the hydraulic pumps
which pump 171 cfs to Orchard Mesa Canals No.1 and No.2. The 272 cfs
used for pumping is returned either directly to the river, or to a canal which
carries water to the river above the GVIC intake. The structure used to
divert water is known as the Orchard Mesa check structure.

2. Comparison With Other Water Rights.

The majority of senior water rights on the upper Colorado River are owned
by irrigation systems in the Grand Valley. There are two main diversion
points, six major diverters, and a collective total of 8 water rights which take
water from the Colorado River at the east end of the valley. The diverters
are as follows:

a) Grand Valley Irrigation Co. (GVIC). A privately owned company which
holds 2 rights for a total of 640 cfs.

IV-4

,
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
,
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
