.

.

The construction of a spillway is imperative to protect the structural integrity
of the Buckeye Reservoir Dam and the installation of a new outlet gate and out-
let conduit is necessary due to the complicated mechanism and make-up of the
existing outlet gate and the deteriorating condition of the existing outlet con-
duit. The proposed construction will not increase the present capacity of the
Buckeye Reservoir but should lift the present restriction for storage capacity of
900 acre foot as presently imposed by the State Engineer's Office.

It is recommended that the Paradox Valley Canal and Reservoir Company proceed
with their plans for the proposed construction and keep in constant communication
with the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the State Engineer's Office, and the
Forest Service in order to expedite all necessary approvals. Even though the
payment capacity for irrigation water is only $6.40 per irrigated acre per year
the estimated cost of the proposed project is $4.05 per irrigated acre per year.

ii
