Water Requirements
1. Current Water Usage
The treatment plant records for raw water useage were utilized to determine
the current water usage for the City of Longmont. These records reflect the
total water treated for all purposes including park irrigation, distribution
losses, commercial, industrial and residential uses. It should be noted that
some nontreated water is used to irrigate the Citys' parks. In 1986, 13,760
acre-feet of water was used or approximately 4483.4 million gallons. Using a
service area population estimate of 50,500, the average useage was 243 gallons
per capita per day. The monthly raw water use at the City of Longmont's water
treatment plants for 1986 is summarized in Table 5.1.
The peak day raw water useage in the past year was 28.5 million gallons or
approximately 564 gallons per capita.

2. Future Water Usage
a. Service Area Population Projections
A number of different projections have been made by various organizations
and entities to estimate the future population of the City of Longmont. The
studies start at various base years, project to different future years and were
developed for a variety of purposes. Thus a range of future populations were
prOjected which anticipate low, medium and high growth rates. In the .St. Vrain
Basin Reconnaissance Study. prepared for the Colorado Water Resources and Power
Development Authority by R.W. Beck and Dames and Moore, February 1986, estimates
of the City of Longmont population were made for low, medium and high growth
scenarios through the year 2020. Estimates made by R.W. Beck and Dames and
Moore are summarized in Table 5.2. In the year 2020, the estimated low, medium
and high growth rate populations were 103,130, 114,710, and 139,320, respec-
tively.

-15-
