.

.

.

Feasibility of Rehabilitation
of the
Lower Decker Lateral

Project Sponsor

The Decker Lateral Company (DLC) is a Colorado Ditch Company and
a Non-profit corporation. Articles of Incorporation are included
in Appendix A. The DLC does not have written Bylaws. The
Company has 35 total shareholders, and 230 shares.

DLC was formed in 1907 for the purpose of constructing,
operating, and maintaining a lateral canal for delivery of water
to lands owned by its shareholders. All shareholders in the
Company receive their water through Owl Creek Supply and
Irrigation and through the Decker Lateral, both of which are
carrier ditches. The DLC will sponsor the project to
rehabilitate the lower end of the Decker Lateral.

Project Service Area

The service area for the lower portion of the Decker Lateral is
located in Weld County, approximately 10 miles northeast of
Greeley. Lands consist of mostly south facing slopes at an
elevation averaging 4,825 feet. The lower portion of the Decker
Lateral serves 1920 acres of agricultural land, used to produce
corn, alfalfa, sugar beets, and beans. See map on page 2.

Need for the Project

The DLC is undertaking this project in order to more efficiently
deliver water to 16 shareholders on the lower end of the lateral.
The existing lateral is an earth ditch which looses an estimated
247.5 acre feet of water annually to seepage. Concrete drop
structures have deteriorated, and it is often difficult to
deliver water owned by the shareholders.
