<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />1/ <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />CHAPTER I <br />GENERAl INFORMATION <br /> <br />PROPOSED PROJECT <br /> <br />The proposed project consists of a new water distribution system, <br />including treatment facilities and potable water storage to serve the <br />existing and anticipated development in the "Lower System" service area <br />of the Winter Park Water and Sanitation District. The "Lower System' <br />will serve the existing Winter Park Base Area, the lower Arlberg Club <br />property, the City Land, and the Lower District; i.e., the private <br />development in the vicinity of and downstream of the existing Winter <br />Park Base Area. Neither system will serve the Highway Department <br />maintenance garage and on-mountain developments of the ski area or the <br />ski area snowmaking equipment. Requirements for these facil ities have <br />not been considered in this report. The proposed Lower System service <br />area is shown on Figure 1-3, and the major features of the proposed <br />project are illustrated on Figure 1-1 in the back of this report, and <br />are discussed in deta i 1 in Chapter V, "PLAN OF DEVELOPMENT". <br /> <br />LOCATION <br /> <br />The Winter Park community is located approximately 70 miles west of <br />Denver in Grand County (see "Vicinity Map", Figure 1-2). The Winter <br />Park Water and Sanitation District includes the Winter Park Ski Area <br />(owned and operated by the Winter Park Recreational Association, an <br />agency of the City and County of Denver), and all of the businesses and <br />homes located in the Fraser River valley from a point 1.1 miles above <br />the west portal of the Moffat Tunnel to a point 1.5 miles below the <br />Moffat Tunnel where the Winter Park Water and Sanitation District adjoins <br />Grand County Water and Sanitation District No.1. The area within the <br />District boundaries is approximately 3,345 acres. The boundaries of <br />the District are shown on Figure 1-3. <br /> <br />1-1 <br />
