I
I
I
I
I
I
I
1/
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

CHAPTER I
GENERAl INFORMATION

PROPOSED PROJECT

The proposed project consists of a new water distribution system,
including treatment facilities and potable water storage to serve the
existing and anticipated development in the "Lower System" service area
of the Winter Park Water and Sanitation District. The "Lower System'
will serve the existing Winter Park Base Area, the lower Arlberg Club
property, the City Land, and the Lower District; i.e., the private
development in the vicinity of and downstream of the existing Winter
Park Base Area. Neither system will serve the Highway Department
maintenance garage and on-mountain developments of the ski area or the
ski area snowmaking equipment. Requirements for these facil ities have
not been considered in this report. The proposed Lower System service
area is shown on Figure 1-3, and the major features of the proposed
project are illustrated on Figure 1-1 in the back of this report, and
are discussed in deta i 1 in Chapter V, "PLAN OF DEVELOPMENT".

LOCATION

The Winter Park community is located approximately 70 miles west of
Denver in Grand County (see "Vicinity Map", Figure 1-2). The Winter
Park Water and Sanitation District includes the Winter Park Ski Area
(owned and operated by the Winter Park Recreational Association, an
agency of the City and County of Denver), and all of the businesses and
homes located in the Fraser River valley from a point 1.1 miles above
the west portal of the Moffat Tunnel to a point 1.5 miles below the
Moffat Tunnel where the Winter Park Water and Sanitation District adjoins
Grand County Water and Sanitation District No.1. The area within the
District boundaries is approximately 3,345 acres. The boundaries of
the District are shown on Figure 1-3.

1-1
