Box 360 <br />Salt Lllice City 10, Utah <br /> <br />\1';...., <br /> <br />Dear Sir: <br /> <br />In reply to your memorandum of October 9, 1961, regarding the participa- <br />tion of the Bureau of Indian Affairs in the potential Dolores Project, <br />we hereby request that the project area for the Dolores Project include <br />some 1,500 acres of irrigable lands located vithin the Ute MOlmtain <br />Indian Reservation. <br /> <br />.'." ., <br /> <br />.-.,-, <br /> <br />":'~ <br />" <br /> <br />vie feel that the construction of this project will greatly benefit the <br />Ute Mountain Indian Tribe by providing additional irrieated farm land. <br />The Ute Mountain Tribal Council by Resolution 604 dated September 6, <br />1956 vhich was included as Exhibit "A" to the l'1etlorandum of Understand- <br />ing dated March 8, 1957 betveen the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the <br />Bureau of Reclamation, authorized the Bureau of Reclamation to enter <br />Indian land for the purpose of m~J<.ing surveys for the Feasibility Report <br />for this project. Since the final decision for the inclusion of this <br />land within the project requires the consent of the Ute Mountain Tribal <br />Council, it is suggested that when the feasibility report for this proj- <br />ect is available, copies be furnished to the Superintendent of Consoli- <br />dated Ute Agency at Ignacio, Colorado. The Superintendent can then pro- <br />ceed to inform the ute Mountain Tribal Council of the benefits to be <br />derived from this project and a final decision will be reached at that <br />time. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Sincerely yours, <br /> <br />/s/ Edward Q.
