This survey included the nearby surrounding <br />area. A stu~ of canal lines was not attempted because personnel of the <br />Durango district office of the Bureau of Reclamation stated thet canal- <br />line locations were subject to change and need not be considered at this <br />time. Pdneral relationships of these routes should be examined after the <br />routes are established. <br /> <br />Stu~ of the project area was completed during July 1961. ~(ineral <br />resources were appraised by examining all published data, including reports <br />of the Bureau or Reclamation, records of the Bureau of Land Management, <br />the plat book of the county assessor's of rice , by inquiry to people livin~ <br />in the area, and by personal reconnaissance of the subject area. <br /> <br />LOCATION AND PHYSICAL FEATURES <br /> <br />Ruin Canyon Dam and Reservoir sites are located in secs. 7 and 18, <br />T. 38 N., R. 18 W., Montezuma County, Colo. This area is approximately <br />7 miles south"est of the town of Pleasant Vie" (fig. 1), ",hich is on U. S. <br />Highway 160 approximately half way between Cortez and Dove Creek. <br /> <br />The damsite can be reached by driving on a graveled county road 5 1/2 <br />miles due west of Pleasant View, then turning one ~ile due south. This <br />places the traveler at a county road Junction indicated at the northeast <br />corner of figure 2. The county roads shown are all graveled and would be <br />passable in virtuallY any weather.
