I

I

CHAPTER I II

I

Land

I

a. Land classification. The rehabilitation of this reservoir
and the addition of a spillway is to preserve the ability to
furnish water to presently irrigated land and to keep this
reservoir available for the many functions it serves.

I

I

b. Service area map. Page A-13 of Ap,?endix "A" is a map of
general area served by The North Poudre Irrigation Company
and the approximate limits of the present irrigated area.
The North Poudre Irrigation doubts there would be much
change in these boundries.

the

I

c. Land use:

I

(1) Present: In The North poudre area approximately
30,000 acres are in agricultural use. The general
uses would be for corn, sugar beets, pinto beans,
alfalfa, barley and pasture. There are approximately
42,000 acres in the area served by North Poudre
which could grow crops. By estimate 2,000 acres
may be in municipal and industrial use.

I
I

I

The average yields of the various crops would be
estimated as follows: 20 tons of silage per acre
or 120 bushels of corn; 17-18 tons per acre fer
sugar beets; 30 bushels per acre for pinto beans;
4 tons per acre for alfalfa; and 75 bushels per
acre for barley. The source of this information
would be from Harlan Seaworth, farmer and feeder
who lives in the area involved, has lived there
for 36 years, and served on the Agricultural
Stabilization Committee for 11 years and helped
set County agricultural yields.

I

I

I

(2) Future: Anticipated net acreage for agricultural
use by crops is between 25,000 and 30,000 acres.
Some farm ground has gradually been converted to
smaller tracts and residential home sites. An
estimate is that over 40 years there might be a
loss of 15 to 16 percent. We expect that most of
this loss would be to municipal land if past
experience is a guideline for future changes.

I
I
I

d. Land ownership. At this time we can only provide an
estimate on the number of ownerships of public and private
land in the North Poudre area. We estimate that 1 to 2

I
I

-7-

-
