8~AOFo~D ,.UDLlSH/NG co

RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS

-------_._-------~.

Board of Trustees
March 14, 1984
Page 5

the town in loss of revenues. He said most of the growth in the past
years has gone to the El Jebel area and the Board should actively pursue
residential development in Basalt. He said the 3 developments currently
before the Board (Deer Run, Hyde Park and Basalt Ridge) all serve
different needs and are not in competition with each other. He said he
did not want to see his property taxes raised because the town loses its
sales taxes.

Administrator L!Estrange read a letter from Frank Taverna, a copy of which
is attached hereto, on the same subject.

There was further discussion about the bypass issue.

TRUSTEES' COMMENTS

Mayor Host read a letter from the Rocky Mountai0 Poison Center which urged
the Town to adopt a poison week proclamation. T~ustee Terwilliger so
moved. Second by Grant; all ayes. A copy of the proclamation is attached
hereto.

Terwilliger asked if the Town honors individualS for academic achievement
as well as athletes. L!Estrange said he would get a list of outstanding
students from the High School near graduation t~me. Terwilliger asked if
any letters have been sent regarding non-confor~ing signs. L'Estrange
said no, tha~ he would check on it and that there is a need to overhaul
the sign code for the business community. Terwi~liger read from Section
57-11 of the zoning code, explaining that in hi~ opinion the Hyde Park
project did not meet that criteria and therefore he could not vote for it.

Trustee Grant asked if the old rental Shop at wolfe's cabins is now a
residence.. L'Estra~nge E.;aid he thought it is a dtessmaker's. now and the
building inspector could check on it. Grant also said that the trash
dumpsters on Midland are unsightly and annoying. L!Estrange said those.
.at the Iron Horse and Connors! building are supposed to be screened and
he would talk to Bishop about accessibility of the dumpsters.

Trustee Bair said he was irate about Moreland's attitude on the bypass.
The town should decide what is best for the community as a whole and not
special interests. Basalt is not a destination resort and he is tired
of threats from businesses to leave town. He said that jf City ~Iar'ket and
Basalt Drug leave Basalt, the town can ~o back to being the Sleepy little
town it used to be. .

Bair also said he is angry about the angle parking at the new laundromat
and hopes that is a temporary situation. L'Estrange said the Model Traffic
Code needs some overhaul and that area would be designated parallel
parking only. He said he has asked Connor to put a sign in the laundromat
.asking people to parallel park but it hasn't been done. Bair said then the
town. should handle it.

There being no further business, Trustee Bair moved to adjourn the meeting at
10:44 P.M. Second by Grant; all ayes.

Respectfully submitted,

{lA/Ai- V ~{;c:e--
Ann H. Bassett
Town Clerk

The foregoing minutes were approved an.d adopted this _ day of
1984,

TOWN OF BASALT

by
John R.
