It is a dry climate characterized by
potential evaporation exceeding precipitation with no water surplus. Few year
'round streams originate in these areas and, by definition, the mean annual
temperature is less than 64.40 F (ISo C).

At higher elevations in the Study Area the climate may be classified as
"Dfb". This symbol refers to a dry, cold, snowy climate with precipitation in
all seasons and a cl imate where the mean annual temperature of the warmest
month is less than 71.60 F (220 C).

2.6 Existing Land Use

The slopes above the valley bottom are used for livestock grazing. A
rock quarry now exists in the central part of the Study Area adjacent to South
St. Vrain Creek. The quarry is operated by the Andesite Rock Company under a
special use permit by Boulder County government and under a long term lease
arrangement with the Hall family, the land owners. Construction materials are
presently manufactured at the quarry by blasting, crushing, and screening.
Stockpiles of the various kinds of materials are maintained at the quarry
site. Material is transported by truck haul.

A small saw mill is located on a lower slope in the eastern part of the
Study Area.

Seven residences are scattered along the valley floor in the eastern part
of the Study Area. Part of Lyons Park Estates, a rural residential
subdivision in Boulder County, is located on high ground in the southeastern
part of the Study Area. Presently, most of the lots in this part of the
subdivision are undeveloped. The lots are an acre or so in size. Reportedly
domestic water is obtained from on-lot wells which penetrate the Lyons-
Satanka-Ingleside sequence of sandstone formations (see Subsection 5.4.2
below). Domestic sewage disposal in this subdivision is by means of
individual on-lot systems.

UEBLACKER ASSOCIATES. INCo
\
