Preliminary Design
In the selection of the type of improvements needed to correct the
problem that exists with the Nunn water supply system (high nitrates) and
to improve the everall operation of the system, the following general
objectives for planning and design were established:
1. System capable of providin9 potable water that meets all
applicable standards for quality, and
2. Facilities which are practical and economically feasible, and
3, Adaptability to the existing system.
The proposed facilities are sized to serve the existing service area
and future population expected in the Town. The description of the recom-
mended improvements along with sufficient preliminary design details now
follows:
Raw Water Source and Delivery Facilities
The most important aspect of the improvements for the Nunn water
system are the improvements necessary to solve the nitrate problem and to
insure that Nunn will have a dependable water supply in the future which
will meet the State's water quality standards. As indicated in Chapter IV,
the treatment of the existing raw water is feasible by a Reverse Osmosis
(RO) process, However, due to the high operating costs in comparison to
the current user charge for water, and the requirements for the treated
water storage in conjunctien with the RO process, the recommended alternative
is the construction of new wells in the Lone Tree Creek Drainage.

31
