Additional considerations and features of this alternate

are as follows:

1. Essentially, treated water is conveyed in the same manner previously

described for Alternate No. lA, except that water is pumped to the rim

in order to serve the town of Dolores and those communities in the northern

portion of the district.

2. Although additional pumping is required for this alternate, operational

costs for pumping over the next 20 years, are less than the capital cost

of the 7 1/2-mi1e transmission line required in Alternate 1A.

3. All other system features previously noted for Alternate No. 1A are

identical for Alternate No.2.

The greatest advantage of the "Rim Site" treatment plant is that this site can

utilize McPhee Reservoir storage capabilities to provide a dependable source of

domestic, municipal and industrial water during minimum stream flow or drought

periods. Further, construction costs of the "Rim Site" plant are less than those

required for the "Dolores Site." The major disadvantage of the "Rim Site" is that

water must be pumped to the town of Dolores, the north area and the Summit Ridge

Area, if service is desired there in the future. All operation and maintenance

costs including pumping are taken into account in our consideration of alternatives.

Rim Site with Cahone Satellite Plant (Alternate No.3)

The "Satellite Treatment Plant" is situated near the rural service area, 2-3 miles

northeast of Cahone. The primary advantage of this site is the reduction in pumping

costs below those associated with Alternate No.2.

A review of Alternate 2 costs reveals that considerable expenditures are made in

conveying treated water to the northern portion of the district. Alternate No. 3

provides a reduction in the quantity of water conveyed and more effective utiliza-

tion of existing lines where possible. Significant cost reductions are achieved

because lines are eliminated or reduced in size. Additional considerations are

listed below:

1. Municipal, industrial and irrigation water will be conveyed to the northern

portion of the district by the Bureau of Reclamation through the Dove Creek

-54-

.
