I

I

I

Regarding treated water storage capacity, the Bureau of Reclamation has

that no increase would be needed by either Cortez or Towaoc through the

reported
5/
year 2030.~

I

Processing operations were considered in sizing the potable water storage tank at

the Rim site treatment plant. Assuming that four independent treatment cells are

provided for each unit process, only one-fourth of the plant should be down when

emergency repairs are required. The loss in plant capacity will be made up from

finished water storage. To sustain filter backwashing operations during this time,

additional gallonage has been included. The total volume requirement is 1.5 million

gallons.

I

I

I

The region served by the northern area treatment plant extends from Dove Creek

all the way south to the community of Yellow Jacket. The area between these points

will be served by a transmission line sized to distribute the peak week consumption

rate. Assuming that the difference between peak week and peak day flow must be met

from potable water storage within the system, at least 1.25 million gallons of

storage is required in the northern service area. Since 850,000 gallons of storage

capacity exists in Dove Creek on the north end, the additional volume should be

provided in the Yellow Jacket area. Situating the tank in this vicinity will

accomplish the desirable goal of having storage capacity at both ends of the trans-

mission line. Excessive height in elevated storage can be avoided since Yellow

Jacket and Dove Creek are the approximate high points in the system. The actual

location and elevation of this tank to be constructed by the entity providing water

distribution service should be coordinated with the district to ensure hydraulic

compatibility with the rest of the system. An existing Montezuma Water Company

tank near the Emmanuel Church between Pleasant View and Yellow Jacket could be

utilized to fulfill a portion of the total storage requirement.

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

I

The upper zone tank serving the district northeast of Cahone is the minimum practical
size (0.1 MG).

I

C, WATER RIGHTS:
Montezuma Valley Irrigation Company is the principal user of Dolores River water
in the study area.
