.

FOREHORD

This report presents the results of feasibility studies and analyses
of the Fruitland Mesa project in the Gunnison River Basin in west-central
Colorado. The project is one of 25 potential projects in the Upper Colo-
rado River Basin that '~re given priority in the completion of planning
reports by the Colorado River Storage Project Act of April 11, 1956 (70
Stat. 105). The Fruitland Mesa project has been planned and analyzed as
a future paxt:i.ci-pating: -project of the Colorado River Storage project.

.

The Bureau of Reclamation first reported on the Fruitland Mesa proj-
ect in its basin-wide inventory of March 1946, entitled The Colorado River.
Results of a reconnaissance investigation of the project and other poten-
tial projects in the Gunnison River Basin '~re included in a report of
February 1951 on the Gunnison River project. The project plan is still
basically the same as shown in these early reports although some refine-
ments have been made as a result of the more detailed feasibility studies.

Authority to make this report is provided in the Federal reclamation
laws (act of June 17, 1902, 32 Stat. 388, and acts amendatory thereof or
supplementary thereto).

.
