Additionally, it may be necessary to acquire outside
water for exchange to assure delivery of water to the storage
reservoir during periods of low water availability. If satis-
factory arrangements can be made, it mayor may not be necessary
to construct the amount of storage as discussed heretofore. This
could result in considerable savings to the Town, but may require
substantial outlay of funds for water rights to accomplish same.

The quality of the surface waters in the area varies somewhat but
is generally poor. Treatment of this water to meet minimum water
quality standards would be difficult although probably not as
costly as the present shallow well supply. However, since the
shallow well system is already serving the Town and there are
many other problems and obstacles to overcome as previously
discussed, it does not appear practical at this time to pursue
the.development of the nearby surface waters. If other feasible
alternates are not available other than only the shallow wells, it
may then become necessary to develop water from this source.

Deep Wells:

Deep wells provide the water supply to the nearby Town of Keenesburg.
The water is taken from the Laramie-Fox Hills aquifer. Although not
meeting all recommended health standards, the water is a reasonably
good quality domestic water as compared to other available supplies
in the area. Water availability from this source has therefore been
discussed in considerable detail in the following paragraphs.

Exhibit V-3 identifies the depth to the top of the Laramie-Fox
Hills aquifer and provides a brief description of the aquifer.
This information was prepared by the Colorado Division of Water
Resources.

The chemical quality of water varies somewhat in the water bearing
zones of the Laramie-Fox Hills aquifer. In the Hudson-Keenesburg
area the water often has fluorides in the range of the
V - 6
