Water usage varies greatly
from one community to the next depending on many conditions including
the types of usage, the cost of water, the quality of the water,
pressure, condition of the water system, and the availability of the
water. In the case of Hudson, it is assumed usage would tend to
increase if the system is improved to provide adequate pressures
and quantity. On the other hand, it is assumed that water used
would tend to decrease if meters are installed and the cost of
water is increased. Considering that water usage for some commun-
ities in the area is lower than 100 gallons per capita per day and
other communities have average usage requirements exceeding 250
gallons per capita per day, it can be seen that usage varies greatly.
Hudson presently provides substantial commercial services to the
area surrounding the community but does not have any unusually
.large water users.

From our past experience, and working with other communities in
this area, we have found that the maximum day usage varies from
1.3 to 2.5 times the average day usage. The peak hour usage has
varied from 2.5 to 4.0 times the average day usage.

We have estimated the total usage based on the hours of pumping
and determined the usage by estimating the pump capacities. From
this investigation, Hudson has a relatively high usage rate. For
design purposes of this report, the following has been used;

USAGE
Average day usage
Maximum day usage
Peak hour usage

RATE (*gpcpd)
200
500
935

RATIO TO AVERAGE DAY
1
2.5
4.25

*gpcpd - gallons per capita per day

Once metering and accurate records are available for determining the
comsumptive use within the Town, these design figures should be re-
evaluated and considered further, particularly as they apply to the
storage requirements, source of supply, and water treatment facilities.

The water usage rates discussed in the previous paragraphs are the
current estimated supply demands needed from the existing wells. The
current source of supply is from shallow wells. Since this source of
IV - 2
