POPULATI ON

As stated in the prior paragraph for land use, a future development
plan has been prepared for Hudson, for the Larimer-Weld Regional
Planning Commission, the Weld County Planning Department, and the
Colorado Division of Planning. This development plan was pre-
pared in 1972. The following paragraphs were taken from that report
and provides a basis of projection for population as it relates to
the future land use plan.

Past U.S. Census data indicate steady population growth since
1940, averaging an increase in population of 100 persons
every ten years. The people of Hudson have expressed a
desire for planned growth and development to an ultimate
population of between 800 and 1,000. However, population
for the year 1990 of approximately 2,000 persons seems to be
a realistic projection.

Currently, the Town includes approximately 290 acres and
had a 1970 population of 518. Hudson serves as a commercial
center for the surrounding farm area and there is some
agricultural related industry. However, most persons in
the Hudson labor force are employed in the Denver and
Brighton areas.

Figures for Hudson by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Bureau of
Census indicate the following:

Year Population
1960 430

1970 518

This is a 20.5% increase in population.

We believe that the population projection of 2,000 for 1990 is high
and have estimated the population on a more conservative basis. Pop-
ulation projections are shown on Figure 111-1 for Hudson to the year
2010. This information has been used for projecting water usage.

III - 2
