The map includes the major features for the Greeley water supply
and treatment system, and the principal cities in the vicinity. The Cache la
Poudre River originates at the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains;
approximately 65 miles west of Greeley, and flows eastward to its confluence
with the South Platte River, approximately three miles east of Greeley;

Twi n Lakes Dam is located in larimer County on a small unnamed tri butary to
the South Fork of the Cache la Poudre River. The dam and reservoir are in
Roosevelt National Forest about nine miles south of Rustic, Colorado;
El evati ons in the basi n range from 9320 to 10,700 feet. The 1 ength of the
watershed is 1.5 miles, and the average width is 0.6 miles. The slope along
the main channel averages about 922 feet per mile. Drainage patterns in the
basin are well defined, and the area above the dam is mountainous and heavily
forested; The drainage area above the dam is 0.89 square miles. A small
ditch diverts water from an adjacent basin to supplement reservoir inflows;

The City of Greeley is located in Weld County on the plains east of the Rocky
Mountains. It is about 50 miles north of Denver, Colorado. The Cache la
Poudre Ri ver flows through the ci ty to its confl uence wi th the South Pl atte
River.

2.0 CLIMATE

Greeley enjoys the mild, sunny, semi-arid climate that occurs over much of the
central Rocky Mountain region. The good climate results largely from
Greeley's location on the east slope of the Rocky Mountains in the belt of the
prevailing westerlies. Situated a long distance from any moisture source, and
separated from the Pacifi c Ocean by the mountai ns, Greel ey experi ences a low
relative humidity, low average precipitation, and considerable sunshine. The
city has an average of 325 sunny days per year.

-3-
