Feasibility of the Repair
of the
Tremont Mutual oitch Company Headgate

Project Sponsor

The Tremont Mutual Ditch Company (TMDC) is a Colorado Mutual
Ditch Company and a Non-profit Corporation. Articles of
Incorporation and Bylaws are included in Appendix A.

The company's facilities, are located on the South Platte River
about 3 miles east of Fort Morgan. They consist of 2 headgate
structures to divert water into the delivery dit~h, a. wasteway to
return excess water to the river and approximately lb.miles of
ditch. The ditch has a capacity of 70 cfs with an ability to
supply about l40 AF of water per day during the irrigation
season.

TMDC headgates are located upstream of the Lower Platte and
Beaver (LP&B) diversion dam. The TMDC is allowed to use this
dam, under formal contract with LP&B. (See Appendix B.)

The TMDC also carries water for Pioneer Water and Irrigation,
Inc. (PWI) , for groundwater recharge., and for the Snyder-Smith
Ditch Co. (SSDC). Both PWI and SSDQ compensate TMDC for this
service, under formal contractual agreements. (See Appendix C.)

PWI and SSDC also have agreements to use the LP&B diversion
structure. (See Appendix B.)

Project Service Area

The service area of the TMDC includes approximately 2000 acres of
farmland in Morgan county. Irrigated crops consist of alfalfa,
sugar beets, pinto beans, wheat, CO~n, and crown veatch.

Need for the Project

The TMDC is undertaking this project to continue to provide
irrigation water to its shareholder~ ,and to the shareholders of
SSDC, for the irrigation of crops. The project is also needed
carry water for PWI to groundwater ~echarge sites. (See
explanation on page 2 of Appendix D.)

The TMDC west headgate structure wa~ destroyed during the 1995
flood. Flood water routed north th~ough the TMDC ditch, before
cutting back to the river upstream of Dodd Bridge road. This
created a new channel, and took out the west headgate. TMDC can
not operate with only the east headgate, because it will sand up
quickly and the company will not be able to meet its delivery
requirements.

Feasibility of the Repai~ of the
Tremont Mutual Ditch Company Headgate
April 19, 1996

1
