I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

CHAPTER 4

WATER

Water Requirements

Water for municipal and industrial use by the City of Victor is collected from
surface runoff and stored in two raw water reservoirs, namely Victor No. 2
Reservoir and Bison Reservoir. Victor No.2 is located on-stream and receives
flow directly from the East Fork Creek. Bison Reservoir is located off-stream
and receives flow via a small tributary watershed but primarily through a ditch
drawing flows from East Fork Creek upstream of Victor No.2. Water is diverted
to either of the reservoirs by means of a headgate located at the headwaters of the
Bison Reservoir connecting ditch.

Raw water is transmitted via a pipeline from the Victor No.2 Reservoir to a
250,000 gallon capacity water storage tank located on Bull Hill a distance of
about 20,500 feet south of the reservoir. This cast iron pipe is mostly 12-inch
diameter with a short section of 8-inch diameter. Joints in the pipe are lead
sealed. A 6-inch welded steel pipe from Bison Reservoir connects into the 12-inch
outfall from Victor No.2. The pipelines run through a boggy area below Bison
Reservoir where pipe joints have had a history of failure due to movement in the
soft ground. The pipe is generally in satisfactory condition and adequately
sized and maintained to deliver required flows.

Manual valves on the pipes leading from the two reservoirs dictate which reservoir,
or both, provides water. Flows are further regulated by a float switch in the
water treatment plant which controls the supply.

In addition to the raw water storage at Victor No.2 and Bison Reservoir, the
City may pump surface runoff from a small impoundment located downstream of the
confluence of East Fork Creek and West Beaver Creek. This pump station, located
at the Altman Dam, discharges into the same pipel ine as the Victor No.2 and
Bison Reservoir outlet.

19
