<br />A ,range of soils data was evaluated utilizing the results <br />from the triaxial tests. The results showed that the embankment <br />and foundation are stable, with respect to sliding, in the present <br />condition, <br /> <br />There is still the possibility of failure by piping of water <br />and fines through the embankment or foundation, however. The <br />filter material is designed to preclude this possibility. <br /> <br />Further analysis and evaluation of the middle south dike <br />'filter, preparatory to construction, may show that the thickness <br />and areal extent of the berm and filter could be reduced. The <br />potential reduction will depend on .identification of the major <br />seepage areas in the area, all of which should' be covered with the <br />filter material. <br /> <br />-30- <br />
