All of the ranch lands lie within
Township 98 West, Range 11 South, of the 6th PM. All of
.the ranch acreage is in one contiguous piece; however,
the boundaries form a very irregular pattern (Figure
III-I), since the ranch covers a number of separate
deeded parcels which were accumulated over the years.
The ranch is adjoined on the west and south by Federal
lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management.
Adjacent property to the northwest and north is owned by
the Town of Palisade and Grand Junction. Privately
owned ranch land adjoins the Lloyd Ranch to the east.

History 2L Ranch.

The lands included in what is now known as the Lloyd
Ranch were once part of a much larger parcel known as
the Stewart Ranch. The Rapid Creek Reservoirs were
originally known as the Stewart Reservoirs and are
designated as such on some earlier records and maps.
The Stewart Ranch was assembled from smaller parcels
over a number of years by Ezra and Ada stewart, who
arrived in the Mesa area in I899. They had one son,
Erwine, who never married. The elder Stewarts died in
the 1950's and Erwine died in 1971, During the period
that they owned the ranch, they filed on a number of
water rights in the area through their attorney, Wayne
Aspinall.

The ranch manager on the Stewart Ranch was Dick Lloyd,
who had worked for the stewarts from the time that he
was a boy. Dick Lloyd later became the sole owner of
the Stewart Ranch after Erwine Stewart died. During the
period that Dick Lloyd owned the ranch, he sold a large
parcel of the property to the Town of Palisade (in
1972). Dick Lloyd held ownership of the ranch until he
sold it to the new owners in 1989.

11
