It <br /> <br />18 mainly on alluvial fans, terraces, and alluvial valley floors. Slope is <br /> <br />o to 6 percent. The vegetation on this unit is mainly shrUbs, grasses and <br /> <br />forbs. Elevation is 5,400 to 7,400 feet. The average annual precipitation <br /> <br />is about 11 to 15 inches, the average annual air temperature is 47 to 52 <br /> <br />degrees F, and the average frost-free season is 100 to 135 days. <br /> <br />This unit makes up about 3 percent of the sUrvey area. It is about 40 <br /> <br />percent Lillings and similar soils, 25 percent Panitchen and similar soils <br /> <br />and 20 percent Torrifluvents and similar soils. The remaining 15 percent is <br /> <br />components of minor extent. <br /> <br />Lillings and similar soils are on alluvial fans and terraces. These <br /> <br />soils are deep and well drained. They formed in calcareous alluvium derived <br /> <br />dominantly from sedimentary rocks. The surface layer is silt loam or silty <br /> <br />clay loam. Below this to a depth of 60 inches the soils are stratified <br /> <br />medium to ooderately fine-textured. The soils in some areas of this unit <br /> <br />are salt and alkali affected. <br /> <br />Panitchen and similar soils are on alluvial fans and terraces. These <br /> <br />soils are deep and well drained. They formed in calcareous alluvium derived <br /> <br />dominantly from sedimentary rocks. The surface layer is loam or clay loam. <br /> <br />Below this to a depth of 60 inches the soils are stratified mOderately fine <br /> <br />textured. <br /> <br />Torrifluvents and similar soils are on terraces and alluvial valley <br /> <br />. floors. These soils are. deep and well drained. They formed in alluvium <br /> <br />derived dominantly from sedimentary rocks. The surface layer ranges from <br /> <br />very gravelly loamy sand to clay loam. The underlying material is extremely <br /> <br />variable. <br /> <br />A-5 <br />
