Feasibility of Rehabilitation
of the
Appleton Northwest Lateral (ML 369)

Project Sponsor

The Appleton Northwest Lateral (Ml 369) & Drainage Corporation (ALDC) is a
Colorado Ditch Company and a Non-profit corporation. The Articles of Incorporation
and Bylaws are included in Appendix A. The corporation has 28 members.

AlDC was formed in 2000 for the purpose of operating and maintaining the mainline
369 that receives water from the Grand Valley Canal, and for controlling runoff and
drainage.

Project Service Area

The service area for the Appleton Northwest Lateral (Ml 369) & Drainage Corporation
is located in Mesa County, south of J road between 23 and 22 Roads. It includes
approximately 250 acres north of the Colorado River, at an elevation of about 4600
feet. The Appleton Northwest lateral is approximately 16850 feet in length, and water
is used to produce alfalfa hay, com and winter vmeat. See map on page 2.

Need for the Project

The AlDC is undertaking this project in order to more efficiently deliver water to 28
members on the lateral and control salinity and drainage flooding. The existing ditch is
made of mostly dirt, with some concrete that is severely deteriorated. The ditch looses
a significant amount of water annually to seepage. We have flooding problems and
washout on many properties, contributing to severe alkali on some properties. Our
lateral supplies and drains back into itself on several proparties.

Feasibility Study
Rehabilitation of the Appleton Northwest Lateral {ML 369~ , Drainage Corpo~ation
September 1997
