Map unit: Rs

Ustifluvents, 0 to 2 percent slopes

Description Category: AGR

Agronomic

This unit is poorty suited for irrigated crops. The main limitations are poor drainage,
high water table, salinity, and occasional flood hazard. This unit is best suited for
wildlife habitat. During non-nesting periods, occasional mowing or burning ina
eases the vigor of plants. Salt-tolerant species are most suitable for planting.

Description Category: XCS Capability Subclass

Capability Subclass 7C; nonlITigated

Description Category: ZCS Class Legend

Capability classification is the grouping of soils to show, in a general way. their
suitability for most kinds of farming. It is a practical classification based on limitations of
the soils, the risk of damage when they are used, and the way they respond
to treatment. The soils are classified according to degree and kind of permanent
limitation, but without consideration of major and generally expensive landfonning that
would change the slope, depth, or other characteristics of the soils: without consider
ation of possible unlikely major reclamation projects.
Class VII - Not suited for cultivation. Very severe limitations. Suited for range,
woodland or wildlife uses If carefully managed. Usually cannot apply physical practices
such as pitting, furrowing, seeding, etc.
C - Climate is the major hazard. Growing season may be very short there is a shortage
of rainfall or both.
Description Category: SOl Soil

This unit consists of areas of Ustifluvents along narrow valley bottoms. Areas are long
and narrow rangIng from 50 to 1,000 acres in size. Drainage varies from somewhat
poo~y to moderately well. Ustifluvents have a surface layer of sandy loam about 2 i
nches thick, Below this is 6 inches of very fine sandy loam underlying material. The
next layer of underlying material is stratified loamy sand, fine sandy loam, and sandy
clay loam about 14 inches thid<. The ""'.. part 01 the unde~ying material to a d
epth below 60 inches is very gravelly sandy loam. Permeability of this soil is rapid,
Available water capacity is low. Runoff is slow, and the hazard of further water erosion
is slight. A water table occurs at 35 to 45 inches in this soil. and during A
pol to August this water \able fluctuates to within 12 inches of the surface. Ustifluvents
have an occasional flood hazard.

Thursday, May 25, 2000

Page 90f9
