I

I

drainage resulting in an ultimate population of 8400. Additional contri-
bution of flow to the sewer system will come from a proposed school, 16
acres of commercial development properly buffered and a recreation center.

I

Anticipated development in the Red Canyon drainage is 600 dwelling units,
or a population of 2100. Additional contribution can be expected from a
proposed recreational area.

I

The Colorado Department of Health requires that new sewage collection sys-
tems be designed for an average daily flow of 100 gallons per capita, peak
flows of 400 gal/cap/day for laterals and 250 gal/cap/day for mains.

I

I

Additional flows up to 2000 gal/acre/day can be expected from commercial
areas, 3000 gal/day from the recreational areas, and 10,000 gal/day from
the school.

I

Utilizing the population projections previously discussed, design flows
would be as shown in Table 2-c.

I

In addition to the two lift stations previously mentioned, two smaller lift
stations are required to serve isolated areas of development. See Figure
2-A for proposed on-site sanitary sewer facilities and line sizes.

I

Service lines will be provided to individual single family lots, and a com-
mon service line will be provided to each of about 40 multi-family clusters.

I

Sewer lines are being built in accordance with Colorado Department of Health
design criteria and City of Grand Junction construction standards.

I

On-site lift stations will be the self-contained type buried lift station.
Sewer lines will be constructed of approved materials such as poly-vinyl
chloride, asbestos-cement, or cast iron. The outfall line lift station will
be a buried package lift station, with a below-ground wet well or receiving
well from which the sewage is pumped. It will contain two pumps with ca-
pacities varied by changing motors and impellers so as to accommodate ever
increasing flows throughout the development period. The force main will be
10" PVC.

I

I

3. Domestic Water. The Ute Water Conservancy District supplies domestic
water at bulk rates by means of an l8-inch high pressure main. The main was
tapped at the intersection of Broadway and Pleasant Ridge Drive, near the
northeast corner of the service area. The line pressure at this point is
180-190 psi, and is adequate to feed the existing Redlands storage tank with
a residual pressure of 50 psi. Ute Water will construct either a new storage
tank at approximately the same elevation as the Redlands tank or a secondary
supply line looping back into the Ute system near the existing tank per Ute
Water Agreement.

I

I

I

Results of extensive studies by the U. S. Public Health Service show the
average water consumption of a municipal system in the United States to be
about 150 gallons per capita per day (gpcd). An approximate categorical
usage breakdown is shown in Table 2-d.

I

I

I

II - 8
