:

SECTION VI I I
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

GENERAL

The project involves the construction of a new water system for the Allenspark

District. The new system will initiqlly service 105 taps of both residential

and commercial users. The commercial users are very minimal at this time with

the greatest amount of water being s4pplied for domestic residential use. Lo-

cation of the new system is shown on the project map, Drawing V-I. The prelim-

inary design calls for a diversion structure on Willow Creek qnd the drill ing

of two wells. There will be two preSsure reducing stations and a future 100,000

gallon water storage tank. Also included in the plan is the necessary piping

which is anticipated to have a seven' foot cover in order to hqve the system

operate on q year-round basis. The System is designed to serve only those units

already constructed.

In the past the area has been served by several individual wells and surface
water lines. The system has been generally unreliable from the physical flow
standpoint and chronic water shortages have occurred during the winter and
sometimes during the summer. In addition, the usage of septic tanks in the
area has posed a human health hazard from the contamination of these limited
water supplies since there is generally no treatment of the water before con-
sumption.

Present pianning includes only the installation of the water treatment and

distribution system without any central sewage collection system. As such,

chis analysis does not include any environmental impacts of a central sewage

system. Nonetheless, it is possible that a major renovation of the sewage system

would, have major environmental impacts and further analyses should be required if

such a system is eventually proposed.

HUMAN HEALTH EFFECTS
The effect on human health is estima ~d to be favorable and desirable. For the
first time the residents in the area will have a continual year-round supply of
water with saf~guards against cJntamindtion.
