They request a loan of $55,000 <br />(about 75 % of the maximum estimated total project cost of $73,500). <br /> <br />The Farmers Independent Ditch Company diverts water from the South Platte River, south-west <br />of Platteville. The system consists of a diversion structure on the river, several concrete check <br />structures, and 17.5 miles of unlined ditch. At a point near the end of the system, the ditch <br />flows along the west side of 35 Road and through several culverts which pass under the <br />driveways to several houses. These culverts are 24" in diameter, big enough to deliver <br />irrigation waters to the remaining downstream users. However, because of the topography, the <br />ditch also collects considerable flood runoff which backs up at the culverts, and occasionally <br />floods the homes. The culverts are old and need to be replaced. The Company wants to replace <br />them with pipes large enough to pass irrigation and runoff flow. (See attached map.) <br /> <br />Preliminary engineering design work has been completed by Steven Peterson of the NRCS <br />Greeley Office. (Alternative designs are outlined in the attached letteL) <br />
