After the recovered sample was examined, pieces

of the sample were selected and stored for laboratory testing. Four

2-la inch Shelby tubes were advanced in an attempt to obtain

undisturbed samples for laboratory testing. Two Shelby samples Were

taken in Borehole Number One (BH-1). one at twenty-five feet and one

a t fifty feet. The remaining two samples were taken in Borehole

Number Two (BH-2) at twenty and thirty foot depths. Only partial

samples Were recovered. A full twenty four inch sample was not

obtained in any of the four samples.

2. Laboratory Testing

A laboratory testing program was completed to determine the

index properties of the soils profile and the approximate strength

parameters of the soils.

The laboratory testing program included direct shear tests on

undisturbed samples at a confining pressure of 5000 pounds per square

foot. Moisture and density analyses were performed on all samples,

Il-3
