<br />1 <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />HYDROLOGY <br /> <br />II-16 <br /> <br />HYDROLOGICAL DESIGN OBJECTIVES <br />Objectives have recently been adopted by Denver area governmental entities. <br />Objectives which relate to the Union Avenue boat by-pass planning and <br />design are listed below. <br /> <br />One-Hundred Year Design Flood <br />The l00-year flood should be the basis for design in the South Platte River <br />corridor. <br /> <br />Erosion and Sedimentation <br />Bed and bank cutting by the river, and related sediment deposition effects <br />should be minimized. <br /> <br />Access Trail <br />Access to the river should be maintained for operational and maintenance <br />purposes, and to afford read y inspection of problem areas. Such access <br />trails serve for hiking and running, biking, and non-motorized <br />transportation. <br /> <br />Continuous Linear Boating <br />All dams and check dams should have navigable boat chutes suitable for the <br />typical boater for in-river flows up to 1500 cfs. This does not mean that <br />the boat chute should carry 1500 cfs. <br /> <br />Aquatic Life <br />Means to protect and enhance fishing and all forms of aquatic life should <br />be included in plans. <br /> <br /> <br />Birds and Terrestrial Wildlife <br />Enhancement of the riverine environment suitable for birds and terrestrial <br />wildlife should be included in the plans. <br />
