Rio Grande River

Flow in the Rio Grande River is measured about 6 miles upstream

from Del Norte, above major canal diversions such as the Rio Grande,

Monte Vista, and Farmer's Union canals, and also above the Pinos Creek

and San Francisco Creek tributaries.

The USGS gaging station records for the Rio Grande River gage at
Del Norte for the study period are complete and this gage was the
basis for much of the missing data interpretation and derivation. The
historic inflow was adjusted by subtracting the upstream inflow into
the three reservoirs to arrive at the Rio Grande River inflow at Del
Norte, and wi th thi s adjustment fl ow vol ume averaged 418,500 acre-feet
per year with a maximum of 702,100 acre-feet in 1986.

e. Other Tributaries

By utilizing flow records of the Rio Grande River at Del Norte,
thereby incorporating all upstream inflow and losses, the only major
tributaries affecting avail able irrigation water are Pinos Creek and
San Franci sco Creek. The confl uence of these streams are located
downstream of the USGS gage at Del Norte. Pinos Creek fl ow is gaged
by the USGS, and San Franci sco Creek fl ows were estimated from the
Pinos Creek gaging station by calculating basin areas and analyzing
historic precipitation for the two watersheds. The flows in the two
tributaries were summed for the operation study and averaged 23,000
acre-feet per year wi th a peak of 52,000 acre-feet.

IV - 7
