The Willow Creek watershed is adjacent to the Santa Maria
watershed, is simi 1 ar in shape and area, and both have a southerly
orientation. The gaging station on the Rio Grande at Del Norte provi-
des an accurate description of the entire basin yield and indications
of droughts, wet years and trends. Since monthly and annual discharge
volumes were necessary, data compiled by the Colorado Climate Center,
Department of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University was also
util i zed to estimate streamfl ow (7). The cal cul ated average annual
volume of water available at the Santa Maria feeder canal diversion
point is approximately 27,000 acre~feet but can exceed 45,000 acre-
feet during wet years.

b. Continental Reservoir Inflow

There are no gagi ng stati ons upstream of Conti nental Reservoi r,
nor any records of reservoi r i nfl ow. The USGS gage on North Cl ear
Creek is about 1,000 feet below the dam with no intennediate tribu-
taries and no upstream diversion. Flow at the gaging station is regu-
lated by Continental reservoir and the outlet.

Hi stori c reservoi r storage records are avail ab 1 e for Conti nental
Reservoir and were obtained from the State Engineers office. Records
prior to 1964 were unava il ab 1 e, however. The monthly ; nfl ow to the
reservoir was calculated from the monthly records using the fonnula:

Net Inflow = Total Outflow + Change in Storage.

IV - 5
