Less than fifty years a90, Boulder County's <br />annual production of coal was 1.25 million tons. In Louisville, between the <br />years of 1917 and 1924, 60,000 tons of coal were billed out of the City per <br />month. <br />Louisville experienced a sharp decline in population when the Depression <br />forced the closing of many mines. However, the City has been making a comeback <br />in recent years due to the growth boom affecting the Rocky Hountain Region, <br />particularly along the Front Range. Industry is moving into Louisville <br />creating employment for the City's residents. The Storage Technology <br />Corporation, located within the City limits, is presently the largest single <br />employer in Boulder County. The Louisville Planning Area (LPA) has potential <br />for immediate urban development, although the City has maintained a rural <br />character. <br />Louisville was incorporated in 1882, during its early coal mining days. <br />The City was organized as a statutory city and is governed by the laws of the <br />State of Colorado regarding statutory cities. <br />2. Financial History and Status <br />The following chart summarizes the financial status of all Fund Types and <br />Account Groups for the years 1973, 1977 and 1981.
