r

.

.

CWCB
4/4/85

REQUEST FOR BIDS

Introduction

The Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Act of 1974, as

amended, authorized the construction of the Grand Valley sal ini ty

control unit, Colorado, by the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation

(Bureau). This salinity control unit has two primary features:

(1) lining of portions of the main delivery canals in the Grand
Valley, and (2) combining of laterals into fewer numbers of

laterals and placing of the combined laterals into pipe. In both

instances, the objective is to reduce seepage and the resultant

salt pick-up in order to reduce salt loading to the Colorado

River.

There are approximately 750 private laterals which are to be

placed into pipe. However, before this can be done, the laterals

must be organized into a legal entity(ies) under Colorado law

which can assume the obligation to operate and maintain the

laterals under contract with the Bureau. At the present time,

none of the 750 private laterals are so organized.

The Colorado Water Conservation Board (Board) has agreed to

undertake the task of organizing the laterals into the necessary

legal entity(ies). Funding for this effort will be provided by

the Bureau.

725
rip
