it

RLAN

PURPOS E

The purpose of the project is to provide additional high mountain regulat-
ing storage for the Company's operation; reduce non-beneficial consumptive use
by allowing storage to be made at high elevations rather than in the Company's
reservoirs on the plains; provide additional eastern slope storage for water
diverted from the Colorado River on the western slope; provide the potential
for annual carryover storage from wet years to dry years; el iminate the existing
problems associated with inundated outlet gates and cracked outlet tubes; elimin-
ate the hazards present in the existing dam because of the undesirable piezometric
water surface conditions within the embankment; provide an overflow spillway of
conventional design and construction; provide, a permanent pool of 84 acres in
area for sport fish propagation, and a recreational area having boating, fishing,
and camping available to the general public; ailow the Company to open the ditch
in May with less effort than is now associated with clearing the ditch of snow;
reduce ditch seepage losses from an estimated 30 percent to about 24 percent;
provide ,a l'ongerand more etfecl:fve'diversion season by making it possible to
transport late season low flows more effectively; and provide for more accurate
measuring of the water diverted by the Grand River Ditch at La Poudre Pass. No
purpose other than irrigation and recreation benefits are considered in this plan.

PHYS I CAL WORKS

The principal features of the project are:

1.
