COLORADO 80225

IN REPLY REFER TO

2510

May 22, 1968

Mr. James M. Ingles
Regional Director, Bureau of Reclamation, R-7
Building 20
Denver Federal Center
Denver, Colorado 80225

Your Reference:
7-720 6/28/67

Dear Mr. Ingles:

This letter will serve as the Forest Service's report on the recreation
potential of the Long Draw Dam and Reservoir Enlargement Project, Larimer
County, Colorado. Under the provisions of the Small Reclamation Projects
Act of 1956, as amended June 1957 and September 1966, an estimate of the
costs to provide basic recreation facilities is required. Because the
project will be constructed on lands administered by the Roosevelt National
Forest, the Forest Service was requested to evaluate the recreation impact
caused by project construction.

CONSTRUCTION AGENCY'S PROPOSAL

The Water Supply and Storage Company of Fort Collins, Colorado, and their
consulting engineers, Wright-McLaughlin, Denver, Colorado, have submitted
a proposal to" enlarge the existing Long Draw Dam and Reservoir. The
project will allow the Water Company to impound additional water trans-
ported through the Grand Ditch from the Colorado River drainage and will
allow the Company to better utilize its existing water rights,

The reservoir will be used to provide supplemental irrigation water to
37,425 acres of land in Larimer County. Water will be stored from Novem.
ber 1 to July 31 in normal years, and released from A~gust 1 through
September 31 in quantities necessary to satisfy irrigation demands. This
operating schedule will vary depending on the need and availability of
water within the Company's water supply system. A permanent pool of 84
surface acres will be designed into the reservoir for fish, wildlife, and
recreation purposes. Data concerning the reservoir is shown on the
fo Howing page.

@
