The
average cost to rehabilitate the measuring flumes on the laterals is estimated to be
about $900 e<lch.

The total cost to rehabilitate the lateral headgates and me<lsuring flumes is
$50,000. Due to the nature of this work, it is proposed that it be done by Canal Company
personnel.

StorCKje Canal Diversion Dam, StorCKje System. This structure is located on the
Arkansas River approximately 3.5 miles downstre<lm from Manzanola, Colorado, and
allows the diversion of water from the Arkansas River into the storage system. The
structure includes a diversion dam across the Arkansas River and a three-bay regulator
structure across the storage canal (see Figure 10 and Photographs 15 and 16).

The overall condition of the structure is relatively good; however, there are
operational problems which deserve some attention. The diversion dam hos a section of
steel flashboards which are hinged to allow them to be operated in either a raised or
lowered position. Operation of these flashboords would most likely result in decreased
sediment problems in the storage canal, as indicated by the large amount of sediment
which has been deposited upstream of the diversion dam (also note the extensive scouring
of the river bed below the dam).

The storage canal regulator shows several signs of disrepair; locally deteriorated
concrete, surface corrosion of the steel gates and other metalwork, difficulty of gate
operation, and the need for repairs and installation of handrailing and grating for
safety. The left (looking downstre<lm) radial gate has a steel frame and a timber face,
and shows obvious signs of le<lkage. The functioning of the structure is considered to be
critical to the proper operation of the storage system and would be improved by the
installation of power gate hoists.

The work required to rehabilitate this structure is as follows:
I. Repairing the deteriorated concrete;
2. Reconditioning the steel flashboards;
3. Reconditioning the steel radial gates;
4. Refacing the timber-and-steel radial gate;
5. Installing power gate hoists on the radial gates;
6. Repairing or replacing the existing handrailing;
7. Installing galvanized steel grating over the rodial gate bay openings;
8. Repairing the access steps and miscellaneous metalwork.

35
