The disrepair of the handrailing and lack of covers
over the gate boys present minor safety hazards. Power operation of the gate was
considered but rejected due to the relative inaccessability of the gates. The possibility
of constructing a sluiceway at this structure to reduce the sediment entering the conal
has been considered and is discussed on Page 48.

Rehabilitation of this structure is relatively minor and would involve the following
work:
I. Reconditioning the steel radial gates; I
2. Repairing or replacing defective handrailing and installing new handrailing
where needed;
3. Installing galvanized steel grating over the gate boys.
The estimated capital cost for this work is approximately $15,800, as outlined in
Table B-1.

Lower Diversion Dam, Fort Lyon Canol. This structure is approximately one-half
mile downstream from the upper diversion dam and allows diversion of water from the
diversion channel into the Fort Lyon Canol. The structure includes 0 diversion dam
across the diversion channel with 0 single boy control gate, and 0 seven-boy regulator
structure across the main canal (see Figure 7 and Photograph 2).

This structure is also in relatively goad condition, with only minor spoiling of the
concrete and some surface corrosion and leakage of the steel radial gates in the canal
regulator structure. A new steel radial gate was recently installed in the diversion dam
control structure, and is presently operated with on electric drum hoist. The timber slide
gate located in the center bay of the canal regulator needs repair to prevent leakage.
For safety reasons, the handrailing should be repaired or replaced, and grating should be
installed over the gate boys. Due to the critical function of this structure, and the
reported difficulty of operating the radial gates, power gate hoists ore recommended for
the six radial gates in the canol regulator. In order to reduce the amount of sediment
entering the conal, the feasibility of constructing 0 sluiceway at this location has been
investigated and is discussed on Page 48.

Rehabilitation of this structure involves the following items:

I Reconditioning of the steel gates in this report includes cleaning, sandblasting and
pointing the gates; replocing the seals; and lubricating 011 moving parts.

20
