I

I

I

The countywide average family income has been estimated by the
County Planner to be about $5,500 per year, or approximately
$4,000 lower than statewide average. This lower average income
is attributed to the large number of retired people and the
significant number of people receiving public assistance.

I

I

Economic level may also be indicated by the average market
value of homes for the area under study. Selected housing charac-
teristics for the City and County of Delta, Colorado, as of January
1970, are shown in Table IV-4. The basic ,data in the table was
obtained from the U. S. Bureau of the Census of Housing for 1970. The
data indicated that places with less than 2,500 persons such as
Cedaredge, Orchard City, Hotchkiss, Crawford, and Paonia were includ-
ed in the rural category. Some of the figures for the City of Delta
were derived by subtracting the rural data from the total County
data.

I

I

I

The table shows that all of the year round housing units
in the City used a public system or private company as a water
source and approximately 93 percent were on the public sewer
in 1970. Approximately 12.5 percent of all occupied housing units in
the City were reported to have automatic dishwashing appliances and
approximately 66 percent were reported to have an automatic or semi-
automatic clothes washing machine in 1970. The median value of homes
specified as owner occupied in the City of Delta in 1970 was computed
to be approximately $9,500.00.

I

I II
, II

I

II

I

I

I

I

I

IV - 8

II
