.

.

.

Miguel River 3.0 miles west of the Butcher Creek drainage. The hydro graph below was derived
from data collected by the USGS stream gage for the San Miguel River near Telluride, CO (ill
#09171200), which has a drainage area of 42.8 square miles (See below). The drainage area of
Butcher Creek is approximately 0.7 square miles. Staff used a basin apportionment method to
estimate stream flows for Butcher Creek (See Gage Summary in Appendix C). The period of
record for this gage was 1959 to 1965, the period of record used by staff in their analysis was
1959 - 1965, or six years of record. Table 2 below displays the estimated flow of Butcher Creek
above the San Miguel River, in terms of a percentage of exceedence.

Table 2:

Butcher Creek Estimated Stream Flow

3.00
2.50
2.00
~ 1.50
1.00
0.50
0.00

~--v ~ ~~ -1~ ~)- </v--V </~ -1vQ U'~ 00.,>- "Vat.- ()~o

Month

Table 2 shows that the summer/winter recommendation of 0.65 cfs is available at least 50% of
the time from May 15th through July 31 st. The summer/winter recommendation was further
reduced to 0.20 cfs from August 1 st through May 14th due to water availability concerns.

Precipitation Data
Staff reviewed local precipitation data sets from 2 different sites located around Butcher Creek
Drainage (see Precipitation Data in Appendix C). These sites include Telluride (1900-1999) and
Ames (1914-1986). Table 3 shows the water year and the percent of average precipitation
recorded at each site.

Estimated Buthcher Creek Stream Flow
Exceedences
1%
5%
10%
20%
50%
80%
90%
95%
99%

January February March April May June July August September October November December
0.21 0.24 0.60 1.24 4.81 5.56 4.95 2.44 1.10 0.57 0.40 0.27
0.20 0.23 0.36 1.07 4.14 4.93 4.26 1.43 0.87 0.47 0.34 0.24
0.19 0.23 0.28 0.93. 2.84 4.28 3,19 1.12 0.77 0.45 0.33 0.23
0.19 0.21 0.24 0.72 2.19 3.68 2.39 0.90 0.67 0.39 0.31 0.21
0.18 0.18 0.19 0.42 1.41 2.76 1.15 0.61 0.44 0.32 0.26 0.20
0.17 0.17 0.17 0.26 0.83 1.57 0.65 0.46 0.32 0.27 0.24 0.19
0.15 0.17 0.17 0.19 0.52 1.38 0.53 0.39 0.31 0.26 0.23 0.19
0.15 0.17 0.17 0.19 0.43 1.19 0.48 0.34 0.30 0.26 0.23 0.15
0.15 0.17 0.14 0.19 0.34 0.96 0.39 0.32 0.29 0.25 0.21 0.15

- 5 -
