~-

were found. The origin of the rainbow trout at this location is unlmown. These fish are
believed to have been stocked, but not by the DOW. The average length of the 16 rainbows
was 24.6 centimeters while the mean weight was 176.7 grams. White suckers dominated this
station with 854 fish per acre. The mean length for the suckers was 14.6 centimeters and the
average weight was 31.1 grams. The longnose dace and the longnose sucker were also collected
at this station. .

At Station Two, 40 brook trout per acre were cOllected. The length of these fish ranged from
10.5-21.6 centimeters. The average weight of t~e brook trout was 32.6 grams., Three hundred
and ninety-nine (399) brown trout per acre were collected with an average length of 19.1
centimeters and an average weight of 100.9 grams. There were 175 white suckers per acre at
this station. The length range of these fish was from 7.1-30 centimeters. The longnose dace
was also collected.

At Station Three, 611 brown trout per acre were pollected. The brown trout ranged from 9-37.5
centimeters in length with an average weight of:73.5 grams. The largest brook trout collected
was 14.75 inches in length. This is a good sized brook trout for a small stream such as
Fourmile Creek. Four hundred and thirty-nine (439) white suckers per acre were also found at
this location. These fish ranged in length from 4.6-38 centimeters with an average weight of
45.8 grams. As was before, the longnose dace, was present.

/,~--....
. J
..,.

At Station Four, 167 brown trout per acre were collected ranging in length from 10.9-33
centimeters with an average weight of 122.9 gra!ns. Four hundred and ninety-seven (497) white
suckers per acre were also found. These fish ranged from 5.1-25.9 centimeters in length with
an average weight of 12.9 grams. Four creek Chub, one longnose sucker, one fathead minnow,
and longnose dace were also collected at this location (Table 5).

Figure 2 and Figure 3 compare brook trout, brown trout 1 and white sucker populations at each
station on Fourmile Creek for October 15th ancj 16th of 1988. These graphs show the number
of fish per acre (Figure 2) and the pounds of flsh per acre (Figure 3).

. .

4.4 WATER CHEMISTRY

Water quality data was collected on Fourmile Creek at all four station locations (Table 2).
There was little fluctuation in the pH reading measured at each station. The range in pH was
from 8.2-8.4. Alkalinity totals were high at ~tation Two and Station Four with 132 and 154
mg/l CaC03, respectively. Hardness was m~sured at 414 mg/l CaC03 at Station Four, 430
mg/l CaC03 at Station Three, and 448 mg/l <;::aC03 at Station Two. Station One had a low
hardness of 100 mgll CaC03. The results for qadmium were low at every station except Station
One. 1.7 ug/l "total" cadmium and 2.8 ug/l "dissolved" cadmium at Station One were
measured. Copper results were less than the standard of 5 ug/l causing no potential harm to the
stream habitat.

"
: ,~ .
